Lab Method: Gas Chromatography

Posted on: June 2, 2009

GC is used to separate and identify gas.

What you will need is obviously, gas, but also an injection port to put in the burnt up gas, an oven, a detector, and a computer to analyze what it detects.

Inside the chamber is a coil that serves as the nonpolar stationary phase. Any nonpolar gas will stick to the nonpolar stationary phase and free up the other gases. Then you check the computer printout to see what you’ve got.
