Nucleophilic Substitution and Elimination Map

Late Entry 6/1/09:  A good friend of mine just informed me that the map above “is one, big, clusterf*^. Therefore, I’ll try to put into nice little chunks:

  • SN2 is in one step, using a back-side attack, and producing an inverted product
  • SN1 has two steps because of the solvent and then makes a racemic mix
