Fecal Occult Blood Test

This is tested on a hemocult card. The patient’s stool is smeared on both boxes of the card, then you turn it around and apply two drops to the quality control box. Wait a few seconds until you see the blue dot indicating that a positive test results. If it does, then you are ready to go on with the test. Now, place two drops on both of the stool smears. If one or both turns blue, it is positive. Negative means that there was no blue color change.
